Global Music Nights presents a series of double bills where tradition and folklore meet new perspectives. Each evening pairs an established name with a promising emerging act: two artists, two distinct styles, and two unique musical stories. Discover four nights of exceptional music, featuring both familiar names and exciting new talent!

1st concert
Xaloq brings the musical traditions of Valencia to Rotterdam, giving them a completely new twist. Led by saxophonist and composer Pau Jordà, the international quintet combines Valencian folk music with jazz, free improvisation and Mediterranean influences.

Featuring Pau Jordà (saxophone & vocals), Annabella Raiona (vocals & viola), Fran Acàmer (piano), Barış Ofluoğlu (double bass) and Lucas Zegrí (drums), Xaloq creates an adventurous and energetic sound where tradition and contemporary improvisation meet.

On their debut album, Quan veja que ja no cante, Xaloq takes listeners on a journey through the musical landscape of the País Valencià, exploring stories of loss, revolution and memory. A unique encounter between Valencian roots and Rotterdam’s open and international music scene.

2nd concert
Fuensanta & Diego Cerroblanco share roots in Veracruz, Mexico and a deep love for its rich musical traditions. In this duo concert Fuensanta and Diego will explore some of the infinite beauty of Mexican repertoire, including boleros, son jarocho and original compositions reimagined for traditional Mexican instruments within this intimate setting.

Fuensanta: Singer, double bass player, composer and improviser from Veracruz. Her music combines simple symbolist and surreal poetry with influences from traditional, experimental, contemporary and popular music. Based in Amsterdam, she works as a soloist and creates music for ensembles and multidisciplinary projects.

Diego Cerroblanco: Mexican musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser based in Veracruz. His work explores the traditional guitarrón and leona of Veracruz and their cultural identities. He connects Mexican traditions such as mariachi, son jalisciense and son jarocho with contemporary sonic and conceptual approaches.

Xaloq brengt de muzikale traditie van Valencia naar Rotterdam, en geeft die een geheel nieuwe draai. Het internationale kwintet rond saxofonist en componist Pau Jordà combineert Valenciaanse volksmuziek met jazz, vrije improvisatie en mediterrane klanken.

Op hun debuutalbum Quan veja que ja no cante reist Xaloq door het muzikale landschap van het País Valencià, langs verhalen over verlies, revolutie en herinnering. Een bijzondere ontmoeting tussen Valenciaanse roots en de vrije, internationale muziekscene van Rotterdam.

Fuensanta & Diego Cerroblanco delen hun roots in Veracruz, Mexico, en een diepe liefde voor de rijke muzikale tradities van deze regio. Tijdens dit duo concert verkennen Fuensanta en Diego de eindeloze schoonheid van het Mexicaanse repertoire, met onder meer bolero’s, son jarocho en eigen composities die binnen deze intieme bezetting opnieuw worden vormgegeven voor traditionele Mexicaanse instrumenten.

Fuensanta is zangeres, contrabassist, componist en improvisator uit Veracruz. Haar muziek combineert eenvoudige, symbolistische en surrealistische poëzie met invloeden uit traditionele, experimentele, hedendaagse en populaire muziek. Ze woont en werkt in Amsterdam, waar ze als solist actief is en muziek creëert voor ensembles en multidisciplinaire projecten.

Diego Cerroblanco is een Mexicaanse muzikant, multi-instrumentalist, componist en improvisator, gevestigd in Veracruz. In zijn werk onderzoekt hij de traditionele guitarrón en leona uit Veracruz en de culturele identiteiten die hiermee verbonden zijn. Hij verbindt Mexicaanse tradities zoals mariachi, son jalisciense en son jarocho met hedendaagse muzikale en conceptuele benaderingen.
