1st concert

With A Portrayal of the Latin Guitar, the Ivan Laranjeiro Trio presents its debut album. Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music form the foundation, with the nylon-string guitar as the connecting thread. Bass and drums give the music a contemporary sound, blurring the lines between classical guitar, Latin music and jazz.

Familiar rhythms take on a new character through improvisation and the trio’s open approach. The result is music rooted in the rich tradition of the Latin guitar, while sounding distinctly of its time.

2nd concert
Elana Sasson brings Kurdish and Persian musical traditions into dialogue with contemporary jazz and Mediterranean influences. Drawing on Persian poetry and Kurdish song, she creates music in which tradition and improvisation naturally meet. At the centre is her clear, expressive voice, moving between intimacy and openness.

Her album 'In Between' explores the spaces between cultures, identities and musical traditions. Traditional melodies and jazz harmony come together in music that feels both intimate and expansive.

Elke avond staat een gevestigde naam naast een veelbelovende opkomende act: twee artiesten, twee verschillende stijlen en ieder hun eigen muzikale verhaal. Het Ivan Laranjeiro Trio presenteert hun debuutalbum A Portrayal of the Latin Guitar. Het album onderzoekt de verbindende rol van de Latin gitaar door Afro-Cubaans en Braziliaans repertoire samen te brengen. Om de nylonsnarige gitaar een eigentijds geluid te geven, wordt deze aangevuld met contrabas en drums.

Het trio benadert bekende Latijns-Amerikaanse ritmes vanuit een fris perspectief. Klassieke gitaartradities komen samen met de ritmische energie van Afro-Cubaanse en Braziliaanse muziek, terwijl jazzharmonie en improvisatie een extra laag toevoegen. Elana Sasson brengt Koerdische en Perzische muzikale tradities samen met hedendaagse jazz en mediterrane invloeden. Vanuit de Perzische poëzie en het Koerdische lied creëert ze muziek waarin traditie en improvisatie op natuurlijke wijze samenkomen. Centraal staat haar heldere, expressieve stem, die zich beweegt tussen intimiteit en ruimte.
